The project

Goal of the project

The goal of the three-year project has been to provide a possibility for Baltic adult educators to create the training modules for adult education practitioners. The modules were to be elaborated in joint education sessions with the Nordic adult educators, using experience and knowledge acquired from the previous teacher training projects, supported by the Nordic Council of Ministers. The modules were to be tested in practice in the Baltic countries in the meantime between the international and national sessions. Within the total time allowed, the training modules had to be refined into courses of adult teacher training in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.

Each year of the project has had its own sub-goal and activities leading towards the overall goal:

1. The first year (2000) was allotted to participant recruitment, project group formation and the specific definition of the needs and tasks of each participating country. The scheme of the whole project was to be designed and the work on the criteria initiated.

2. The second year (2001) was the year of intensive learning for the core-group participants and preparation for the training sessions they were to provide during the third year of the project. During the second year, the anchoring of the new courses of education was initiated in the Baltic countries, and the agreed minimum set of criteria of an adult educator defined.

3. The third year of the project (2002) gave numerous international practice possibilities in the adult education environments outside one’s own country, i.e., the participants could run training sessions in another country and in another education institution. Several possibilities for sharing the acquired experience were also provided for the participants. The assessment
tools for the criteria were worked out. The national curricula with the agreed set of criteria as the point of departure were developed, and the new courses of education anchored nationally.
